I&#8217;m only really satisfied with one drawing, shown in\u00a0the <a title=\"Pivoting my practice to pictures (again, after again)\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.generaleccentric.net\/?p=1749\">previous post<\/a>. Others \u2018kind-of\u2019 done and waiting for me to look at them and \u201cyeah, that&#8217;s a good drawing\u201d\u2014but this hasn&#8217;t happened yet. Maybe I need beer goggles. One other image I did was a Mondrian\u2014not a copy, but trying to use\u00a0the same strategies of placement of line and colour that he used. I&#8217;m happy with this\u00a0one.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/generaleccentric.net\/clockWithTics\/mobile\/\"><strong>Clock with Tics web app<\/strong><\/a>: When I published this web app a couple of years ago, I used PhoneGap and XCode, and it all seemed rather complicated to me. I came back to it because I wanted to get up-to-date with the latest tools for making web apps. I found out about the HTML5 \u201ccache manifest\u201d function, which allows\u00a0the app to function without having to access the server. So now it works more like a \u2018real\u2019 app. View the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/firesign\/iPhone-Clock-With-Tics\">source code<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/nscadesign.ca\/cutup\/index.php\">Media Circus web app<\/a><\/strong>:\u00a0I took the time this summer to learn a little more Javascript using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.codecademy.com\/\">CodeAcademy<\/a> and then settling on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.codeavengers.com\/\">CodeAvengers<\/a>, with the intention of developing a Media Circus web app. It\u00a0was developed using JQuery Mobile, a development process that\u00a0was much simpler than PhoneGap\/XCode. Vegomatic\u00a0uses the Python Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK) library. NLTK is used by scholars to analyze texts, so if, for example, you wanted to know how many times \u201cfreedom\u201d is said in every\u00a0U.S. State of the Union address, NLTK is your tool of choice. I had problems managing unicode characters (such as \u00e9 and \u00fc), so\u00a0as a\u00a0last resort I inserted some code to simply \u2018give up\u2019 if it encountered unicode. This is why there&#8217;s a unicode error in the example. I consider these experiments in themselves a failure, but they led the way to better things, such as RAzer.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ahclem.is-leet.com\/razercgi.html\">RAzer<\/a><\/strong>: This is a Python program that does more sophisticated headline cutups for use in Media Circus tweets.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/firesign\/RAzer-cgi\/blob\/master\/allRazer.py\">allRAzer<\/a><\/strong>: As a final, faintly ridiculous conclusion to my efforts to create better tools for making cutups, allRAzer builds a list of cutups using all of the join words that are available in RAzer. Like Vegomatic, this is a Python program\u00a0that has to be run from a computer that has Python installed.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/firesign\/Sectional\">Sectional<\/a><\/strong>: This is a theme for <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/madoublet\/respond\">RespondCMS<\/a>. Respond is a responsive\u00a0content management system that uses Bootstrap 3.\u00a0I wanted to build a theme to prove that it was possible to create <a href=\"http:\/\/nscadesign.ca\/respond\/sites\/sectional\/\">a one-page site in Respond<\/a>.
